April 2014 news – There’s no better time to invest in Cheshire says local authority

Invest in Cheshire is the message from Cheshire West and Chester Council as it launches a new video to highlight the benefits and opportunities for equine businesses in and around Cheshire.

Produced by the Cheshire Racing Hub, a one-year British Horseracing Authority and Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) funded project (managed by Cheshire West and Chester Council) the short film was produced to highlight an area fit for industry and showcases the best Cheshire has to offer in terms of breadth of businesses, infrastructure and skills.

Cheshire is well known for its equine activity and the film highlights the number of high profile venues and personalities across the many disciplines, including the country’s oldest racecourse at Chester.  The film recognizes that there is significant growth potential throughout the sector, and the Cheshire Racing Hub has recognised this by producing a promotional film ‘investing in Cheshire’s equine sector’. The film will be shown across the county and region with the aim of promotion and raising awareness. Cheshire is proud to have a vibrant mix of business and enterprise operating successfully across the county.

The Film is released at a good time for equine businesses in Cheshire as Bolesworth’s Show Jumping event goes international (CSI3*) this year. This adds yet another international show in the Olympic Disciplines to the Equestrian Calendar, the third in Cheshire following Southview (CSI3*) and the Show Jumping British Masters as well as Eventing at Somerford Park (CIC1* and CIC2*). On top of this the number of horse racing trainers expressing an interest to locate in Cheshire is growing.

The Racing industry in Cheshire is always showcased at Chester Racecourses’ May Festival, the exciting 3 day fixture in the racing calendar, drawing crowds of up to 20,000 on one day.

Christopher Capes, Rural Regeneration Team Manager said: “Cheshire has always had a very strong equine link and we are already very proud of the diverse and successful businesses located here. The aim of the short film is to highlight to other businesses or business owners who may be looking to re-locate, how strong Cheshire’s offering is”

Kay Kent, Chair of the Cheshire Racing Hub and University of Chester representative on the project said: “We are delighted to have produced a film which highlights Cheshire’s full potential and we are thankful to all those who assisted in filming, highlighting what a truly special place Cheshire is to do business within.  Speaking from the education sector, its particular exciting and encouraging to see so many diverse businesses across training, veterinary science and technology investing in its people and providing such a diverse range of employment opportunities within the industry”

This video will provide a solid legacy of the Racing Hub project for years to come and is hopefully just the start of expanding Cheshire as an equine hub.

The Invest in Cheshire DVD was produced by Equine Productions and compliments videos produced earlier in the year on careers within the racing industry within Cheshire.  All videos can be viewed at www.cheshireracinghub.co.uk or on the Cheshire Racing Hub YouTube channel.
